Women of the ELCA
Women of the ELCA sponsors many annual events including a women's retreat;
an all-church family outing; two children's clothing and toy resales and two
general meetings/programs. WELCA financially supports a number of
institutions and organizations, including the Lutheran School of Theology;
the Seminary Guild; Lutheran Social Services of Illinois; PADS; and the
Synodical Women's Organization. WELCA also encompasses the following groups:
Abigail Circle
The Abigail Circle meets twice a year for fellowship and renewal.
Hannah Circle
Meetings are the first Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at members' homes.
The Hannah Circle consists of women of varying ages, most of whom work
during the day. They devise yearly programs, ranging from service projects
to current topic discussions, with a great emphasis on fellowship
.
Lydia Circle
Meetings are the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at church. The
Lydia Circle is a group of women with open hearts, open minds, and open
hands who welcome women of all ages to join them in friendship and mission.
They endeavor to enrich their Christian faith through the arts of the
Spirit: sharing, caring, studying, praying and serving.
Ruth Circle
Meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 9:30 a.m. at members'
homes. The Ruth Circle members are friendly and enjoy one another's company.
Their most recent projects have included supplying health and hygiene kits
for Lutheran World Relief. Some of the members are active in Altar Guild;
some are quilters; and others offer their assistance at Lenten and funeral
lunches.
Epiphany Cover Girls
Since 1991 the Epiphany congregation has sent a yearly shipment of quilts to
Lutheran World Relief along with school supply tote bags, soap, and
sweaters. Also sent are infant layettes which are put together by the Lydia
Circle.
Quilt tops are sewn year round
and then assembled by the Cover Girls. Work sessions take place each
Thursday in July and again for three consecutive Thursdays in October and
three again in November. Newcomers are always welcome and no quilting or
sewing skills are needed.
The Cover Girls have assembled
close to 2,000 quilts through the years and are always anxious to get
started on the next shipment. Their labor of love rewards this group with
great comrade and fellowship.
ChristCare Small Group Ministry
The ChristCare Vision is for a community of spiritually mature Christians
united in faith and the knowledge of Christ attaining to the whole measure
of the fullness of Christ. The Mission is to encourage people to join small
groups dedicated to spiritual growth and development through Biblical
community. |
